The Carriage Hostel is recognized as one

of the most enchanting hostels in Ireland by Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, and Routard.

It was included in the “Our Pick” honor

category recently in the revised 2008 edition

of the Lonely Planet guide and also

received commendation from the Let’s

Go 2008 guide.  The Railway Station was constructed between 1994 and 1996, using recycled railway materials to house a 150 year-old mahogany carriage, which was rebuilt by local craftsmen.

Rates for Carriage Hostel:

singles in 3 and 4 bed

compartments (bunks)   17.50 euros per person

double:                           43 euros for 2 people

                                       30 euros for one person

Rates for Kiln House:

mezzanine double: 35 euros for two people

                                                   per night

                                25 euros for one person

dorm:                      15 euros per person per


There are 12 singles in the three  four bedded

compartments and two doubles in the Carriage

and six beds and a loft double in the Kiln House.  The entire hostel has been redecorated

and refurbished.


-to the rear of the Carriage Hostel is a large, very warm cozy sitting room with an open turf


-traditional music often takes place

-dining room and kitchen decorated and

equipped in traditional style

-three showers and utility room

-beds are handmade from old railway sleepers

  and they are solid and very comfortable

-all compartments have wash hand basins

  and central heating

  1. -The Kiln House, which was once used for drying corn, has been renovated in a rustic style.  There is one dorm room upstairs and a double bed in a mezzanine loft.
